Vapid!

So we've all heard of people being "deep", "thick-headed", "so last year", "obtuse"....etc, etc, etc...

These types of words worm their way into the mainstream media, and eventually become common words or phrases we end up using on a daily basis.....until the next great buzz word comes along.

Ok, I wouldn't exactly call some of them great, but they're words.....and they buzz around our lives for a while.

So what's the next buzz word that will invade our placid, boring vocabulary, and make our sentences sparkle with the light of a thousand bright stars?

I believe it is "vapid".

Vapid? What the hell is vapid?

Well dictionary.com describes vapid in the following way:
–adjective
1. lacking or having lost life, sharpness, or flavor; insipid; flat: vapid tea.
2. without liveliness or spirit; dull or tedious: a vapid party; vapid conversation.

The main reason why I believe this is the next buzz word, is that for the last two days, I have heard this word used on two seperate television shows.

Now hearing a word two days in a row shouldn't necessarily make it the next buzz word.

That's true.

But previous to these last two days, I had heard this word probably a total of 4 times in my entire life!

Maybe it's where I was brought up. Maybe the calibre of people I hang around with don't have the best of vocabularies. Maybe I hadn't heard of this word until I was well into my 20's!! :)

Whichever way you look at it, this word has cropped up twice in two days, on popular television shows, on network TV!!

This isn't coincidence. The writers of these shows probably hang out together in coffee shops or night clubs, and they talk. They talk about their shows, and drop new vocabulary like it was yesterday's rancid milk (sounded good, not sure what that meant...hehe).

Ok that sounded like I have a grudge against TV show writers, but I don't.

But bark my words, "vapid" is soon to inundate our lives like.....like a.....well like a new buzz word.

Look for it, listen for it, and come back and tell me about it.

And here's some YouTube videos to take us out......

And lastly, a video I find rather funny, but some of you will hate me for laughing at. But since we don't know each other, it doesn't much matter if you hate me for it.
